Wind bends the flag
Now only a terrific rag
We stand still, snow hits hard
It covers every man's beard
We stand and wait
For Gustavus Adolphus!
They came one day
Came and took us away
"For King and country
Shall ya'll fight and die!"
Staff they spared not
To tie us like a knot
Knee to knee to ride
None gone on this road
Will board the boat
To North
Others march for pay
We for duty or else sway
Bright are their colours
Elegant in their manners
We are fighters
On shaggy horses
And birchbark baldricks
"Cut 'em down!", mercenaries yell
"Hugga in, mina söner" king prays
"Hakkaa päälle, perkele!" we cry
No one will go home
Parents shall not see their son
Rest we will in foreign land
And our deeds in song be sang.
